People often ask why we are called Pear's. It all started back in 1915, as the legend is told . . . when our Master Roaster "Pierre Hermann" first came to the United States. When he arrived at Ellis Island, the U.S. customs official mistakenly wrote down the name Pear instead of Pierre . . . and the name stuck. Since that moment, he has been known as Pear Herman.
Pear was truly a gifted craftsman. With his expert touch, he created the finest, most flavorful roasted nuts and coffee in the world. He combined his love of fine French gourmet food with his delicate technique of roasting coffee and nuts and created art. His unique and finely tuned skills have been handed down from generation to generation. So magnificent were his creations, we decided to name our company in his honor - Pear's Gourmet.

Our facilities today
While our commitment to quality ingredients, products and processes has never wavered since the days of founder Pear Hermann, our facilities have. Today, we enjoy the convenience and precision of a 100,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility.
Inside, our people continue the traditions begun in 1915—creating the finest, most flavorful roasted nuts and coffees in the world. Wherever possible, we’ve implemented the latest conveyances and processes to more quickly meet the demands of our customers, while ensuring the freshness of our products.
And yet, in many areas, we remain true to our philosophy that new is not always best. Take for instance our roaster. Built in the 1940s, it continues to enhance the delicate roasting technique that made Pear’s famous.
